DESCRIPTION

1971 Datsun 240Z Scarab V8 Restomod – Drift Games Provenance – Watson Racing Chevy 350 V8 Lowe Classics are delighted to offer this hugely distinctive and widely recognised 1971 Datsun 240Z Restomod, a car with a superb backstory, serious mechanical specification and unmistakable road presence. Originally supplied by Deane Motors in Ireland before later becoming part of the Drift Games collection, this 240Z is understood to have been built as a Scarab-style V8 conversion, using a Watson Racing USA-built Chevrolet 350 V8. Producing a reported circa 400 bhp, and paired with a proper manual transmission, this is a far more serious build than a purely cosmetic restomod. The specification is extensive. The engine build is understood to include a Chevy 350 block, Scat crank, Probe rods and forged pistons, hydraulic camshaft, performance cylinder heads, Brodix intake manifold, Demon 750 CFM carburettor, Mallory ignition system and upgraded cooling with aluminium radiator and electric fans. Power is sent through a Muncie M22 four-speed manual gearbox, built with an Auto Gear heavy-duty case and uprated internals, together with a high-force clutch, lightweight flywheel and R200 clutch-style limited-slip differential from a 300ZX Turbo. The chassis and suspension package is equally focused, with BC Racing coilovers, polyurethane bushings, Arizona Z Cars / Bad Dog-style chassis reinforcement, four-piston front brake conversion, drilled discs and upgraded rear brakes. The previous advert also referenced a seam-welded chassis and no-rust shell, further supporting the quality and intent of the build. Visually, the car is impossible to ignore. Drift Games later transformed the car into its current wide-arch, motorsport-inspired presentation, with grey wrap, graphics, number roundels, aggressive front air dam, deep-dish wheels and a stance that gives the car huge presence from every angle. The car is understood to retain its original orange paint beneath the wrap. Inside, the car continues the purposeful theme with a digital dash and stripped-back, driver-focused feel. This is not a concours-standard original 240Z, nor is it trying to be. It is a properly developed, high-character restomod with real provenance, serious mechanical hardware and a visual identity that makes it instantly memorable. Mileage is to be treated as non-warranted due to the nature and extent of the build. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a well-known V8-swapped 240Z with Deane Motors and Drift Games history, substantial specification and genuine show-car presence. For collectors, drivers and enthusiasts looking for something far more individual than a standard classic, this is a very special S30 Z. Viewings are strictly by appointment at our showroom in Upper Triley Farm, Abergavenny.
